Michael Ross

Michael Ross is an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer at Hatch, based in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he works in the Specialized Engineering division. With a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, Michael brings both academic depth and real-world engineering insight to his role.

Since joining Hatch in 2022, Michael has been involved in a wide range of projects that challenge him to think critically, collaborate across disciplines, and apply engineering principles to solve complex problems. His day-to-day includes everything from design calculations and equipment specification to project coordination and technical troubleshooting—offering a well-rounded view of what it truly means to be a mechanical engineer in a global consulting firm.

Outside of his industry role, Michael has a strong background in education and mentorship, having served as a tutor and mentor at UCT. He has supported students in subjects ranging from mechanical vibrations to system-level design of power plants, always with a focus on making engineering concepts accessible and practical.
