As an engineering professional working within the Nuclear Power Industry, a comprehensive understanding of the design and analysis of piping systems and operability assessment, testing, and repairs of Nuclear Power Plant components is essential.

This official ASME Design and Analysis of Piping Systems and Operability Assessment of Nuclear Power Plant Components Learning Path is comprised of two self-study eLearning courses accessible via ASME’s Learning Hub. The courses provide training in ASME BPV Code, Section III and ASME BPV Code, Section XI and ASME B31.1 Code to equip learners with key considerations along with the theoretical and practical skills to excel as a nuclear power plant engineering professional.

The learning path features recordings of Live Virtual Classroom sessions taught by ASME’s expert instructors. The video-based courses cover (a) the Code and regulatory requirements, (b) the technical and historical basis of the requirements, and (c) best industry practices for the correct and cost-effective design, analysis, and integrity assessment of nuclear piping systems.

For the full list of learning objectives and detailed descriptions for this learning path, please click on the links to the individual courses above.

Who should attend?
This learning path is intended for engineers involved in the design, analysis, qualification, troubleshooting and operability determination of ASME BPV Code Section III, Safety Class 1, 2 & 3 piping systems, and ASME B31.1 Code for nuclear power plants, along with an introduction to ASME BPV Code, Section XI for in-service inspection of nuclear power plant components.

It is suitable for utility operating personnel responsible for in-service inspection, nondestructive examination, evaluation, repair, replacement, and modification of nuclear power plants, and for personnel responsible for assessment or third-party inspection, regulation, or enforcement.

By participating in this learning path, you will learn how to successfully:

  • Describe the NRC regulatory requirements related to ASME III and B31.1 Piping Systems
  • Explain B31.1 nuclear piping design requirements and in-service inspection requirements for Class 1, 2, and 3 systems, components, and supports, and steel, and concrete containment vessels
  • Describe requirements for qualification of nondestructive examination personnel and performance of nondestructive examination
  • Identify Section XI requirements for repair, replacement, modification, maintenance activities, and pressure testing

Course participants are expected to have:

  • A strong technical background or hands-on experience with Code work
  • Access to computer equipment and a reliable internet connection
  • Software to display PDF files (such as Adobe Reader)

Course Materials Included:
Published ASME Interpretations that explain how Code requirements can be applied to problems that have confronted other companies.

Supplemental Course Materials (not included with course, purchase separately)
Recommend access to the current edition of ASME BPV Code, Section III, ASME BPV Code Section XI, and ASME B31.1 Code.

A Certificate of Completion will be issued to registrants who successfully complete each course in this Design and Analysis of Piping Systems and Operability Assessment of Nuclear Power Plant Components Learning Path.
