U.S. Celebrates World Standards Day 2025

The United States joined the global community in celebrating World Standards Day (WSD) 2025 on October 23, recognizing the essential role of voluntary consensus standards in safeguarding public health and safety. This year’s theme, “Standards for Public Health and Safety,” highlights how standards protect the water we drink, the buildings we inhabit, and the transportation systems we rely on.

Developed through broad stakeholder engagement, standards ensure that everyday systems and infrastructure operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. They rely on the expertise of engineers, committee volunteers, and technical experts to establish robust frameworks that support innovation, interoperability, and public trust.

The U.S. WSD event, co-hosted by ANSI and NIST, includes networking, a program recognizing leaders in standardization, and the announcement of the Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award winner. The day celebrates both the people behind the standards and their real-world impact on society, emphasizing that strong standards are foundational to a safe and resilient world.
