VOLT Leadership Workshop: Setting up for Success Through Succession Planning
As a leader, not only do you need to lead effectively in the present, you must also ensure the continuation of strong leadership beyond your own term of service. This workshop will help you prepare for the transition of leadership, using a fair and inclusive approach to succession planning.

In this workshop, we will cover: 1) writing quality position descriptions 2) drafting thorough succession plans, and 3) creating fair rubrics to assess candidates. During the workshop, you will engage with other ASME volunteers to address best strategies for how to develop ASME volunteers and how to create rubric definitions that are objective and inclusive.

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Write a position description for an ASME role in your unit

  • Outline a succession plan for your current volunteer position

  • Identify key criteria to assess candidates fairly using a rubric

  • Utilize resources in ASME's DEI Toolkit

Presenter: Emily Boyd is a Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, and she serves as Vice Chair for Programs on the VOLT Executive Committee.

Date & Time: Thursday, March 21, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. ET
