ASME’s Bioengineering Division’s Industry Committee is sponsoring a Mini-Symposium and Virtual Networking Event to provide engineers working in the biomedical industry with knowledge of the latest trends at the FDA and the use of computational modeling in regulatory science. There will also be time to meet people working at other medical device companies and participate in informal conversations.  The event is free and will be held online.

Agenda:

  • Introductions: Meet the hosts and event participants
  • IC Mission & Trends at the FDA: Brief introduction to the mission of the Industry Committee followed by a discussion of the latest trends at the FDA in computational modeling by Tanaka.
  • Keynote Presentation: Highlights of the ASME V&V40, “Assessing Credibility of Computational Modeling through Verification and Validation: Application to Medical Devices” with a focus on how computational modeling may be used when seeking FDA approval.
  • Small group discussions: Event attendees will be divided into small groups consisting of 4-6 participants to discuss ideas provoked by the speakers or other topics of interest. Conversations will be free form and guided by the participants.
  • Group Reflection: A representative from each group will briefly share in interesting item/point that developed during the conversation.
  • Full group discussion: Participants will engage in a discussion on topic points uncovered in the small group reflection.
