Women’s History Month: Honoring a Legacy

Celebrating Women’s History Month Celebrating Women’s History Month
During this Women’s History Month, I’d like to take a moment to honor ASME’s first woman president, Nancy Deloye Fitzroy, who passed away earlier this year.

Nancy was a trailblazer who paved the way for her fellow women engineers. Not only was she ASME’s first female president, but she was also the first female student to study chemical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and one of the first female helicopter pilots. Learn more about her story in the video below:

ASME honors Nancy’s legacy by supporting the work of female engineers like her. Our Women in Standards & Certification (WiSC) initiative was established in Spring 2019 with a goal of enhancing the culture of ASME Standards & Certification by providing an inclusive environment for women.
WiSC provides visibility, mentorship, training, and collaboration opportunities to recognize the valued participation and contributions of women on Standards & Certification committees and activities.

We also extend this support to our women employees. The Women in Search of Excellence Employee Resource Group (WISE ERG) is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive culture that not only encourages and celebrates diverse voices throughout the organization but also accelerates connections among women within ASME.

Over the past few months, WISE has held meetings on various topics selected by its members, which included learning opportunities, featured speakers, and networking opportunities.

I am excited by the incredible work supported by WiSC and WISE and look forward to seeing what they achieve next.

With regards,

Thomas Costabile, P.E.
ASME Executive Director/CEO
