Takeaways from ASME’s 2025 Annual Meeting
Takeaways from ASME’s 2025 Annual Meeting

Last month, the ASME Board of Governors, staff, and volunteers met in Portland, Maine to consider the future of ASME. As always, our Annual Meeting was a three-day whirlwind of learning and discussion. We came out the other side with some exciting announcements—as well as a renewed path forward for our organization.
We selected our 144th president, Dr. Lester K. Su. Lester is a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Stanford University. He has served on the AMSE Public Affairs and Outreach Council, the ASME Philanthropy Committee, and as Chair of the ASME Board of Governors. I’m looking forward to working closely with Lester over the course of the next year.
We also selected the following ASME members to serve on our Board of Governors for the FY26 - FY28 term. They are:
- Carlos Beatty, Jr.
- Nelia Mazula
- Parisa Saboori, Ph.D.
- Scott Smith, Ph.D.
- Alisa Clyne, Ph.D.
- Daniel Kearney, Ph.D.
- Victoria Risinger
- Robert Stakenborghs
In addition, we renewed ASME’s commitment to being at the forefront of engineering innovation. This means leading in artificial intelligence guidance and ethics. We also aim to promote inclusive and sustainable practices in the engineering field.
I’m excited to see where this next fiscal year with ASME takes us. Perhaps most importantly, we’ve selected innovative and hardworking individuals to guide our course to the future.
With regards,
Thomas Costabile, P.E.
ASME Executive Director/CEO
