Of the 25 ever made, only eight Big Boy steam locomotive engines have survived. Of these, only one was re-acquired, rebuilt, and made operational. The rest, like No. 4012, are in museums.
Unfortunately, of the 25 Big Boys ever made, only eight of these steam locomotive engines survived the scrap heap. Of these, only one is not on static display at a museum. No. 4014 was re-acquired and rebuilt by Union Pacific to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first transcontinental railroad in 2019.
