ASME Foundation and Westinghouse Join Forces to Build Local Engineering and Manufacturing Talent Pipeline in Shoreview, Minnesota
Westinghouse sponsorship supports workforce pathways, broadens access to engineering careers, and strengthens the local community
NEW YORK (September 24, 2026) — The ASME Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), today announced a sponsored collaboration with Westinghouse Electric Company to support workforce development programming that will help build a sustainable, local talent pipeline for Westinghouse’s Shoreview, Minnesota, facility while expanding opportunity for the surrounding community.
Through its sponsorship, Westinghouse will fund and promote the purposes of the ASME Foundation’s Community College Engineering Pathways program activities and related regional workforce development initiatives. This sponsorship supports a place based approach to talent development designed to align education and training pathways with workforce demand, benefiting students, educators, employers, and the broader region.
“By sponsoring programs that strengthen local education and workforce pathways, Westinghouse is investing in both our future workforce and the communities where we operate,” said Cameron C. Martin, director of component safety and quality improvement at Westinghouse Electric Company, and a nominee for the ASME Board of Governors.
The sponsored collaboration focuses on increasing awareness of careers in engineering, technology, and manufacturing (ETM); broadening participation in the ETM pipeline; and recruiting, supporting, and retaining the next generation of ETM professionals. Programming will emphasize awareness of career opportunities, hands on learning and practical application of knowledge for students, while also supporting upskilling and reskilling opportunities for the current workforce.
“Westinghouse’s sponsorship enables us to deepen our impact at the community level by increasing awareness of local ETM careers, expanding access to engineering and technical education, and promoting experiential learning, while addressing real workforce needs,” said Stephanie Viola, executive director of the ASME Foundation and managing director of ASME Philanthropy and Programs.
The Shoreview effort reflects the ASME Foundation’s broader strategy of building regional engagement hubs: long term, place based collaborations supported through industry sponsorship. The ASME Foundation is actively seeking anchor employers and other stakeholders to help scale impact, strengthen local talent pipelines, and expand access to engineering and technical careers in other regional hubs.
