McDonald Mentoring Award

The ASME McDonald Mentoring Award established in 2007 recognizes the outstanding mentoring of other professionals by an engineer in industry, government, education or private practice.

Candidates for this award must have attained, as a minimum, a record of outstanding performance in the following areas:

  • Contribute significantly to the engineering community.
  • Serve as an effective advocate and guide and exhibited true concern for mentees demonstrating a portion of their mentoring or advising activities within the past 5 years.
  • Demonstrate the impact of practices, processes and programs established by the nominee.
  • Must be a member of ASME, or another ICOMES member society for at least 5 years, as well as when receiving the award.
  • Have a baccalaureate or equivalent degree in recognized field of engineering or engineering science, but not necessary in mechanical engineering.

Form of Award: $1000, bronze medal, certificate, and a $750 travel allowance
Administrative Responsibility: Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Committee
Limitation (s): Must be a member of ASME, or another ICOMES member society, for at least 5 years, as well as when receiving the award.
